Carbon Shaft Tip Diameter Guide: 11mm, 11.75mm, 12mm Difference

Differences between 11mm, 11.75mm and 12mm carbon shaft tip diameters, which is ideal for which game. Tip diameter guide for pool, carom and snooker.

One of the most important technical parameters when choosing a carbon shaft is tip diameter (ferrule end diameter). It directly affects your game style.

Standard Tip Diameters

  • 11mm: Thin tip, mostly for pro pool. Max control, low power.
  • 11.75mm: Most common pool diameter. Balance of control and power.
  • 12.0mm: Classic pool and carom standard.
  • 12.5-13mm: Carom and snooker preference.

11mm Tip — Thin, Sensitive, Controlled

Thin tips contact the ball with less surface area, providing maximum spin control. Preferred by pro 9-ball and 10-ball players.

11.75mm — Sweet Spot for Most Players

Most preferred pool tip diameter. Ideal balance of control, power and durability.

12.0mm — Classic Standard

Preferred for both pool and 3-cushion carom. Wider surface area provides more consistent tip-ball contact.

Which Should You Choose?

  1. Pool player: Start with 11.75mm, move to 11mm as you advance.
  2. 3-cushion carom: 12.0mm standard, 12.5mm for advanced.
  3. Snooker: 12.5-13mm traditional choice.
