Cue Weight and Balance: What to Choose?
How to choose weight (oz) and balance point; pros and cons of light and heavy cues.
Cue weight and balance point directly affect hit feel and control. In this article we summarize practical selection criteria.
Weight Ranges
18–19 oz: Light, fast hand; for finesse and speed-focused players. 19–20 oz: Most common range; balanced feel. 20–21 oz and above: Heavier, gives support feel on break and power shots.
Balance Point
The balance point is the cue's center of gravity. Forward balance gives a more "punchy" feel; rear balance gives a calmer, control-focused feel. In Masi Carbon models this balance is optimized in production.
Decide by Trying
Theoretical ranges vary from person to person. If possible, try cues with different weight and balance and choose according to your own feel.
