What to Look for When Buying Second-Hand (CPO) Cues
Checklist when buying used or CPO cues: warping, cracks, tip and price.
Buying second-hand or CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) cues can be budget-friendly; but careful inspection is required.
Visual Check
Roll the shaft on a flat surface; if it's warped you'll see a gap from the table. Check for cracks, splits or bubbles. Joint areas and around the tip are especially critical.
Tip and Joint
The tip may be worn or deformed; it can be replaced. Check if the joint is tight or loose. Threaded joints should have no thread damage.
Carbon Fiber Advantage
Carbon fiber cues are hardly affected by warping or moisture; so second-hand carbon shafts are generally a safer buy. Masi Carbon's CPO program may offer inspected products; check the Pre-Owned section in the catalog.
Price
Expect a reasonable level relative to market price and age of the product. Excessively low price can be suspicious.
