Billiards and Focus: The Mental Game at the Table

Pre-shot routine, breathing and concentration; mental tips for consistent performance.

Billiards is not only physical but mental. Focus and routine directly affect your score.

Pre-Shot Routine

Follow the same sequence on every shot: position, angle, speed, breath, stroke. This routine both reduces distraction and strengthens muscle memory. Don't rush; let your approach to the table be calm.

Breathing

Instead of holding your breath at impact, breathe slowly and steadily. In stressful moments, taking a deep breath in and out reduces heart rate and hand tremor.

Equipment Trust

Trusting your cue matters too. A consistent cue (e.g. a carbon fiber Masi Carbon) gives the same feel in every practice; so your mind focuses only on the shot, not on equipment change.
